A new pathway for owner support

Home2Home is part of PetRescue’s owner support services, offering an alternative for pet owners looking to find a new home for their pet and who have the capacity to care for them during the adoption process.
🐶 Keeping more pets safe through Home2Home
Giving pet owners the tools and support to manage the adoption process themselves offers a safe and responsible alternative to unreliable third-party platforms such as Gumtree, or their pet entering the pound system.
We know the best place for at-risk and vulnerable pets is in the care of a rescue organisation. Home2Home helps to lessen the burden on rescue groups, by keeping pets that don't need help out of the system leaving more space in rescues and foster networks for pets in need.
🐾 How Home2Home can help pets:
-
A dedicated team provides full support to pet owners with rehoming their pet so that pets can transition happily from the comfort of their existing loving home straight to their new home with least disruption.
-
Pet owners who wish to choose a new home for their pet themselves may often use platforms such as Gumtree. Home2Home offers a safe and reliable option for rehoming with a support team at hand including animal behaviour experts who can help throughout the adoption process. We have found that sometimes, simply providing support has empowered the owner to keep their pet, which is the best outcome.
-
The PetRescue team oversees the process from owner support to adopter selection and success in the new home. Adopters are completely aware of the program and are provided with follow-ups, help and support if needed and there are safety net rescue groups in place if the adoption doesn’t work out.
-
PetRescue has strict safety and security processes that keep breeders and scammers from our platform. Home2Home is a personalised service which requires consultation with our team and a detailed paperwork trail. The program does not see any payment made to the owner surrendering their pet, deterring anyone not using the service for the right reasons.
🦺 Become a Safety Net Rescue
As we all know, sometimes, adoptions don’t work out. In the Home2Home program, if the original owner is not in a position to take the pet back, this is where the nominated Safety Net Member Group can step in.
Here’s what you need to know:
-
Safety Net Groups are nominated for each area
-
The group receives $50 for each pet listed in their areas (regardless of whether they are called on or not)
-
If a group is required to take the pet in their care, they will receive an extra $100 from PetRescue to support transfer and care costs.
-
The pet ( already fully vet worked) is then moved to the group’s care and will be rehomed as per their usual processes and with their usual adoption fee.
You can express your interest to be a Safety Net Group here.
If you are a large shelter and would like to set up an assisted rehoming program through PetRescue, contact us here.
Owners and adopters in the program are followed up to measure the success of the program and develop it further. By challenging the status quo and testing new approaches, we can keep moving towards a future where every pet is safe.
